We believe that the Bible is absolutely true. It is the Holy Scriptures, authored by God’s Spirit and penned by more than forty inspired human writers over the course of 1500 years. The Bible is the essential guide to eternal life and Christian living.
We believe that there is only one, all-powerful, all-loving, holy God. God has eternally existed in three distinct persons: God the Father; God the Son; and God the Holy Spirit. Everything that exists was created by God and is sustained by God.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the one and only true Savior, and the only sovereign Lord. We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died for the sins of the world on a Roman cross, and was raised back to life after three days by His own power. Christ ascended to heaven where He intercedes on the behalf of every believer.
We believe that the Holy Spirit lives inside every Christian and empowers believers to grow spiritually by knowing, loving, obeying, serving, and enjoying God forever.
We believe that all have sinned. We have all done things that are against God. We have all been born into a sin nature. There is no one who is innocent. Because of our sin, we deserve eternal punishment in hell.
We believe that salvation is a free gift from God and is offered to everyone. Anyone who asks forgiveness for their sins and believes in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is rescued from the impending punishment for their rebellion against God.
We believe that all believers, once saved, are kept saved by God's power. Therefore, true believers can never “lose their salvation”.
We believe that the church is the family and spiritual body of Christ. Christ-followers are called to unite together in love, and work as a team through individual giftedness in order to influence this world for Christ. Pastors are called to disciple and equip every member “for the work of the ministry”.
We believe that God has ordained the covenant of marriage and defined it as a covenant relationship between a biological man and a biological woman. We will only recognize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman. Further, the pastors of Discovery Church will only participate in weddings and conduct marriages between one biological man and one biological woman. In addition, the property of Discovery Church will only host weddings between one biological man and one biological woman.
We believe that Satan and his demons are active in blinding mankind to spiritual truth in order to keep them from a personal relationship with God and eternal life. Satan is the father of lies, a deceiver, and the ruler of the non-believing world system. He was judged and condemned by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and will suffer eternal punishment at judgment. All believers can and should resist him by faith and applying scriptural truth.
We believe in the impending “rapture” of the true church by the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ will then return to earth to establish His kingdom, to judge all unbelievers with eternal punishment in hell, and to reward all believers with an eternity in heaven.
